Thinning programme

A Long Term Plan for Bryn Arau Duon has been drawn up through consultation with local stakeholders and following scoping meetings with the communities of Rhandirmwyn, Cilycwm and Pumsaint. This has provided the strategic vision to develop the forest to meet the aims and objectives of the owners within the context of the local economic, cultural and natural environments of the area.

The thinning programme covers the entire property except those areas of long term retention, biological reserves and ten percent of the area dedicated to transformation to continuous cover.

The environmental programme at Bryn Arau Duon includes clearing encroaching trees and the restoration of valuable wet mire habitats. A red squirrel survey has provided conclusive evidence of the presence of red squirrels in the area leading to grey squirrel trapping and a selective feeding programme.
